Grilled Okra Skewers

These grilled okra skewers are spiced simply with whole cumin seeds, chilli flakes and black pepper. They taste great dipped in a fresh tomato salsa or a tangy mint and coriander yogurt!

  • 24 okra
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp whole cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli flakes
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper


  • Into a large bowl add okra along with olive oil, cumin seeds, sea salt flakes, red chilli flakes and ground black pepper.
  • Toss until the oil and spices have completely coated the okra.
  • Pierce 2-3 okra onto a metal skewer. Repeat until all the okra have been skewered.
  • Lay the okra flat onto a baking tray with a 1.5 inch gap between each skewer.
  • Set the grill to a medium temperature 200°C/390°F and grill the okra skewers for 6-7 minutes on each side.
  • Remove from the grill once the okra skin appears evenly scorched. Serve whilst warm.
